History
Our current directors, Nicholas and Sindhu Dobree,
started the business in 1986 with an initial planting of 200 grafted macadamia
trees. Today we have 35 acres with almost 4000 healthy trees at various
stages of production. We have also set up a fully mechanised commercial
processing and packaging plant, with the objective of being able to process
our own macadamia nuts as well as create a market for any other persons
interested in growing macadamias as a food crop.
The business is based at Baldivis, some 50 kms south of Perth in Western
Australia’s sandy coastal plain.
We have been operating as a factory direct outlet since the trees have
been bearing nuts. Constant improvements to the reception area and the
idyllic location situated on a hill in amongst the orchard, where you
can sit and relax over morning or afternoon tea, has made us a popular
place to visit. We are now a popular tourist destination and tours of
the factory can be arranged by appointment.
Our shop with a full range of our products is open from Wednesday to
Sunday and public holidays from 10 am until 5 pm.
A Bright Future
We have been trying to promote the industry in Western Australia, encouraging
the establishment of more macadamia orchards in the state. Being a young
industry here with a relatively small volume of macadamia nuts being produced
each year, we are in a position where we have the capacity to process
and market much larger quantities.
With roughly 35 orchards of between 200 and 1000 producing trees from
whom we buy the nut in shell for processing and with anywhere up to another
100 younger orchards still not in production, the outlook is good.
With demand continuing to exceed supply internationally and an ever-growing
domestic market here in Western Australia, macadamias are an exciting
crop for the future. Our own production is increasing year by year. We
are also keen to buy any other locally grown nut in shell, subject to
quantity and quality control guidelines.
We are already exporting macadamia nuts to Singapore and Indonesia and
several international distributors are showing strong interest. With our
product now available in a growing number of retail outlets, we anticipate
continuing strong growth well into the future. Although the business
has grown significantly over the years, it still remains a family concern.
